Dear C4FA Supporters,
Last week, on Wed, Jan 8th, the Board of Supervisors (BOS) voted to approve the AA contract to fly a very large jet out of Palomar Airport starting on Feb 13th, against the wishes of the residents, the City of Carlsbad, and the City of Vista.
We are disappointed by the Board of Supervisor’s vote. It was an incredibly poor decision on the part of the BOS, who hid behind a weak rationale for their vote of approval. This was NOT a vote to restore commercial passenger service to Palomar. That already exists. We simply asked that the contract be REVISED so that voluntary quiet hours would be respected and that an appropriately sized aircraft would be used at this BII General Aviation Airport .
Those pushing hardest for the approval were not North County locals and many don’t appear to even live in the County. Additionally, although the County is under a Court order to honor Carlsbad’s LOCAL CONTROL over Palomar Airport, the City of Carlsbad was not consulted by the County, nor did the City give its approval.
It’s not over. C4FA is evaluating its options, including regulatory and legal avenues. Simply put, the information provided by County staff in favor of the AA contract was incomplete or erroneous. The FAA DOES NOT require an airport to reconfigure, change polices, waive fees, and twist itself into a pretzel to make a particular airline’s jet fit. Palomar Airport has active airline service available to the public on jets that are designed to fit the current configuration of the Airport.
