Projects and Accomplishments

South Vista Communities partnered in these projects during the past year to preserve and improve the quality of life for all residents south of Highway 78.
  • Worked with the City’s storm water dept., the Vista Sheriff’s office, and dozens of community volunteers, to clean up the Buena Creek area next to the Burlington Coat Factory and Shadowridge Plaza, September 16, 2017, and April 21, 2018. The April event resulted in over a ton of trash and debris – 2,084 lbs. – removed from the creek area.
  • On-leash or off-leash? SVC participated in a series of meetings held by Vista’s Parks & Recreation Commission and City Council to determine the best resolution for dog owners and residents enjoying our parks:  off-leash all open hours at South Buena Vista Park, on-leash all open hours at Buena Vista Park (the Duck Pond park).  Thanks to Commissioner Norm Halus for the wise solution.
  • Proposed expansion/extension of Palomar Airport’s runway to accommodate larger airplanes is one long-running issue for South Vista residents. Representatives of Citizens for a Friendly Airport (Carlsbad) spoke at two community meetings; SVC submitted comments to the County’s Draft Environmental Impact Report, along with many other residents.  We are awaiting the County’s response to the comments.
  • Traffic and public safety is another major issue, particularly speeding and traffic accidents along South Melrose Drive, Shadowridge Drive, and other roadways. City officials and Sheriff’s Dept. representatives outlined their approaches to the problem and results of several months of citations.
  • Met with developers proposing new projects in South Vista to provide input on proposed projects to ensure they fit with the community character and do not impose burdens on surrounding residential areas.

South Vista Communities is continuing its work to preserve and improve the quality of life for all residents in the 23 neighborhoods south of Highway 78.  We invite your help, as residents, in identifying issues and problems and your participation in developing solutions.

Our mission is to provide a forum for residents to share their concerns about decisions that affect the quality of life in Vista. Our goal is to work together with the city and other community agencies to make a difference in our community.

We recognize the elected and appointed officials of the City of Vista as valuable and essential partners in accomplishing common goals, and we work closely with them and appreciate their interest and assistance.

Thanks to all of you – our members and residents and businesses – for your interest in keeping South Vista a vibrant place in which to live and conduct business, and for your help and participation in making that happen. We encourage you to invite your friends and colleagues to join the conversation! We are a non-profit organization and we appreciate your tax-deductible contributions.
