Subject: Public Comments Needed for a Simple Way to Keep Vista Safe

Friends and Neighbors,

As your Deputy Mayor, I’m asking for your help on an important public safety issue facing our community.

Right now, our Sheriff’s gang enforcement and investigative teams are doing critical work to address violent crime and gang activity in Vista. However, the workload placed on our current gang detective is simply too high for one person to manage effectively. Comparable gang units in North County typically distribute cases across multiple detectives, with more balanced caseloads that allow for proactive enforcement, prevention, and follow-through. In Vista, that balance no longer exists.

I have placed the item on the agenda as item D3 for next Tuesdays meeting and have asked the City Council to consider adding one additional Gang Unit Detective to ensure we can keep pace with current demands and continue protecting our neighborhoods.

You can make a real difference by making your voice heard:

Attend the City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 28th at 5:00 PM and speak during public comment

Even a short message of support helps. Public safety is a shared responsibility, and community input matters in these decisions.

Thank you for standing with me to keep Vista safe.

Sincerely,

Dan O’Donnell

Deputy Mayor
City of Vista
