From Vista City Council member Dan O’Donnell: On May 27, the Vista City Council held a discussion about the newly installed protected bike lanes across the city. During that meeting, I made a motion to remove the most concerning sections immediately and begin evaluating the rest, including the berms and posts.
As part of that action, all berms on Melrose Drive—both northbound and southbound—from Sycamore Avenue to the southern city limits will be removed. The white delineators along that same stretch, from Sycamore to Dawson, will also be taken out.
I’ll be bringing the District 4 bike lanes back to the agenda at our June 24 Council meeting. Since the May discussion, I’ve met with local cyclists, advocacy groups, and traffic deputies. Before the next meeting, I’ll also be meeting with another cycling organization, our fire department, city engineers, and will do a ride-along with first responders during peak traffic hours.
My aim is to weigh expert input alongside community feedback to make a well-informed decision about the future of these bike lanes.
If you’d like to share your thoughts, please email me at [email protected] with “District 4 Bike Lanes” in the subject line.
Thank you for staying engaged—I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Dan O’Donnell
